Closing the window keeps your downloads going

Downloads carry on with the window closed, the tray icon behaves like a tray icon, and the menu on the Downloads page does what it says.

The torrent engine runs inside the app, so closing the window was closing the download - with nothing left behind to say so. That, and a menu on the Downloads page where every item did nothing at all.

Closing the window can keep the downloads

Settings → Network → Closing the window, on by default. X now hides the window and the transfers carry on; the way back is the tray icon, or simply launching Ventic again - it brings the window back rather than starting a second copy. Quit is on the tray menu and still quits.

  • Turn it off and the close button quits the app exactly as it did before. It is a setting rather than a rule because not every desktop has a tray: a Flatpak runtime and a minimal session carry no appindicator, and there launching the app again is the only way back to a hidden window.
  • Android needs none of this - it already keeps downloading with the app off screen - so the setting only appears on the desktop.

The tray icon behaves like a tray icon

Left click opens the app, right click opens the menu. Both clicks used to open the menu, which is not what a tray icon does anywhere else, and the menu held nothing but Quit. There is a Show Ventic item on it now. Linux is the exception whatever we ask for: libappindicator delivers no click event at all, so there the first menu item is the way in.

Fixes

  • The Downloads menu does what it says. Off a phone, the ⋯ menu on a transfer - pause, open folder, copy magnet, remove - closed itself and did nothing else. Each action went looking for the row after the menu had already forgotten which one it was opened for.
  • A finished torrent can be paused. It has nothing left to fetch, but it is still seeding, and pausing that is a thing people want. Worse, one that was paused after it finished had no way back: the row said Paused and both the button and the menu item had taken themselves away.
  • The new settings text is translated into all 72 languages.
